12 Fret Parlor Guitar, Indian Rosewood
by admin on Apr.09, 2008, under Parlor Guitars
There is no need to modify this beautiful Martin 1918 Parlor Guitar by any means. This Guitar is made from Indian Rosewood back and sides from plan #8 by Ted Davis. The soundboard bracing has a single brace on the bass side of the soundboard unlike today’s Martin Parlor Guitars witch have two braces. I made both styles in the past and I like the 1918 model much better because it projects the sound faster and the basses are brighter and deeper.I use some principles of thinning the top and back plates from building my Classical Guitars and I guarantee that the intonation and balance on this guitar is incredible.
I simply used well quartered wood for the soundboard and spruce for bracing. The neck wood is well quartered one piece Sapele Mahogany with Graphite
non-adjustable truss rod.
The finish is shellac for sealing then Warren McFadden Nitrocellulose Lacquer to finish gloss. The back-sides and neck has about 5 coats and the top is finished lightly after 3 coats of shellac with 4 coats of lacquer.
